Each Other - A+ and Facts - C

"...we are a lot more sophisticated about each other than we are about the abstract world," according to Malcolm Gladwell in his book TheTipping Point.

What a fabulous assertion! Said another way, 'We are better with each other than the facts.' The implications are far reaching. Need to sleep on this one.

A Thought on Thought

Thirty years ago I read that thinking is an unconscious process (see Julian Jaynes' book The Origin of Consciousness...). I've loved and coveted that idea ever since. It's just so deliciously absurd and yet seemingly true.

So if that wasn't weird enough I offer Jeff Hawkins' theory from his book On Intelligence, wherein he postulates that the thinking process is sort of a holding up of current experience to experiences from memories. If the mind accepts that experience as truly new it files it way for future reference. Otherwise it identifies it as fitting some old template and either files it away in some musty place or tosses it out as inconsequential.

I am holding these ideas together and trying to figure out the consequences!
